1.
Membership
Towards
the end of last year (2006) the WUS-Romania had
enlisted 80 members, out of which 4o were living
in Bucharest, 20 in other Romanian university
towns and another 20 abroad. In this context we
wish to point out that we do not merely intend
to have as many as possible members but that we
prefer a limited but active group of members
who contribute one way or the other to our
practical work (for example as volunteers in our
office or as seminar assistants or
correspondence members in the country).
This corresponds to our slogan
“Es
gibt in der Welt nichts Gutes, ausser man tut
es”
This
sentence was phrased by the German writer Erich
Kästner (1899-1974) and it says, more or less: “Nothing
is good in this world,, kid - unless you try and
do it!”
Personal contacts still
prevail in our organization, which we think is
good. Most of our activities are devoted to
students and young professionals until they are
finally settled in life, but we are glad to
count on our senior members with profound
professional and life experience.
The structure of our
membership is as follows: 20% are students at
basic level, 40% are post-graduate students and
junior professionals with up to 8 years of work
and another 20% are senior professionals in the
above-mentioned meaning
2.
Office Organisation
Most of the work is
performed in our office in Bucharest where we
have, not without temporary black-outs, the
necessary technical and communication equipment.
All of our work is done by volunteers without
payment in their free time. This requires not
only engagement but also a good office
organization and personal reliability which is
not always easy to find. On the other side this
way of getting things done is a good way to
learn practical office and team work and to
exercise one’s knowledge in foreign languages.
In the country we have the assistance of our
corresponding members in such towns such as
Sibiu, Alba Iulia, Timisoara, Iasi, Galati,
Constanta and Ploiesti.
3.
